PLUTE-ORA
PLUTE-ORA! Is an initiative aimed at recovering a Greekmanuscript that shows the role of Southern Italy in the transmission of classical texts".
The Pluteo 87.21 is a parchment palimpsest code, made in Otranto land (Apulia) and attributed to the monastery of San Nicola di Casole.
The term "palimpsest manuscripts" refers to those documents on which a text was wrote that was subsequently erased in order to reuse the parchment. This practice has been important over the centuries for the manufacture of new codes. Texts of established tradition or texts considered not appropriate, were deleted!
This Greek manuscript is a "codex ter scriptus", written and erased three times. This feature made it possible to bring to the present, in a single document:
- Pieces of Teodoreto’s “Historia Philotea” (400 A. C.), dating back to the IX century and because of which he was sentenced of nestorianism,
- Pieces of OMERO’s ILIADE, written around the XI Century,
- Texts of PARVA NATURALIA, from Aristotele’s “De sensu et sensibilibus”, from the late XIII Century,
This work, vehicle of Theological, and Philosophical and Epic messages, which has survived to the time and to different historical and cultural contexts, is unique and deserves to be investigated.
Plute-ora project aims at :
- Carrying out a Multispectral High Definition acquisition: RGB, Infrared and Ultraviolet,
- Using Algorithms to highlight deleted text,
- Realizzare un modello 3D interattivo e sfogliabile tramite un software,
- Allowing the scientific community to carry out a better study of the text and make it available to the people.
TEA owns the quality certification for digital images processing, virtual restoration and not-invasive diagnostics.
